Hiring and salaries

“If you are applying to a school that offers both lecturer and professor positions, understand the credentials of faculty who have been hired for each to assure fair pay and fair placement. Believe in yourself and your capabilities. Understand competitive pay for the position to which you have applied. Always negotiate your salary when possible, though there may be constraints in the public university pay structure.

Universities often hire a full school year in advance, such that the hiring committee can receive applications during the Fall semester, interview during the Spring semester, and hire for the following Fall semester.  In some cases, the full application and hiring process can take place the Spring or Summer before. Prepare your materials during the Summer in time for Fall job postings.” Land more advice from the Black Woman’s Guide to Advancing in Academia.
